This is now possible for date palm trees and many other trees. According to a 1 year test conducted by Ministry of Environment (Agricultural Affairs Department), it saved them 50% of irrigation water when they used the tree watering stakes called Deep Drip, with existing bubbler or drip irrigation system. Additionally, there weren't any weeds found near the date palms. You can not only water the trees right at the roots but can aerate and fertilize all at the same time - making the tree look healthier with conserving up to 50% of water. The recommendation is for the EAD and other associations to take a note of this product and save water for the UAE and the generations to come.
