Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) has won the Sword of Honour Award for Safety Management from the British Safety Council, in recognition of its leading role in the field of health and safety systems. DEWA is the only winner from the UAE for the award, a global recognition in the field of safety and occupational health. DEWA has won this prestigious award for the fourth consecutive year since 2007.

“DEWA has the best management systems in the field of health, safety and the environment as a part of its overall strategy, which includes the most up-to-date world-class practices. This comes within DEWA’s framework of promoting a culture of health, safety and environment as part of our social responsibility policy, as well as DEWA’s relentless pursuit to provide a healthy environment and workplace for everyone,” said H.E. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

His Excellency praised DEWA’s efforts to win this award, which adds to its record of distinguished achievements to date. It has obtained the British Five-Star Certificate in Safety from the British Safety Council since 2002. DEWA has implemented the highest criteria for health, safety, and integrated systems of management since 2009, which has been evaluated by the British Safety Council, and Bureau Veritas, the French company in the field of inspection, approving and testing services world-wide.

“DEWA works to implement best practices in the field of health and safety in the workplace, in addition to protecting our employees’ health and safety and preventing against communicable diseases. The percentage of lost days has improved as have wasted days due to injuries and diseases for this year in comparison to 2010,” said Dr Yousef Al Akraf, EVP – Business Support Division at DEWA.
