The International Desalination Association (IDA) has produced a new video that addresses some of the most common questions about desalination. “Desalination Myths and Misconceptions” explores the facts behind such topics as the cost of desalination, energy consumption, impact on the environment and reliance on conservation to meet increasing water demand. The launch of the video took place at the ‘IDA World Congress on Desalination and Water Reuse 2011′ at Perth, Australia.
The video is part of IDA’s public outreach and education programme, and is available on the home page of IDA’s website, www.idadesal.org. This is the second video introduced by IDA to inform stakeholders about desalination. The first video, “Desalination for a Better World,” presents an overview of the role of desalination in meeting the world’s water challenges and technologies used to desalinate water around the world. The same can also be viewed on IDA’s website.
IDA wishes to acknowledge the efforts of the following in the production of the new video: Leon Awerbuch, Leading Edge Technologies; Lisa Henthorne, Water Standard; Tom Pankratz, Water Desalination Report; Dr Rick Stover, Desalitech; Alden Research Laboratory; Fisia Italimpianti; Hyflux; PUB, Singapore’s National Water Agency; and TechnoPark.
