The 2011 IDA World Congress on Desalination and Water Reuse will be held September 4-9 at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre in Western Australia.

The International Desalination Association (IDA) announced that Sir Richard Branson will be the keynote speaker at the 2011 IDA World Congress on Desalination and Water Reuse. Widely recognised as the world’s premier event for the global desalination community, the 2011 IDA World Congress will be held September 4-9 at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre in Western Australia.

Sir Richard Branson

Branson will deliver his remarks via satellite during the Opening Ceremony on September 5. Famous for his achievements as an entrepreneur and founder of Virgin Group and for his world record-breaking attempts, he has built the Virgin Group into a business empire, consisting of more than 300 companies in over 30 countries. One of the world’s most recognised and respected brands, Virgin has expanded into air and rail travel, hospitality and leisure, telecommunications, media, health and wellness, space tourism, and clean energy.

He is also deeply committed to using business as a force for good. He founded Virgin Unite, a not-for-profit foundation that applies entrepreneurial approaches to social and environmental issues. One of its initiatives is the Carbon War Room, which harnesses the power of entrepreneurs, business leaders, policy experts, researchers, and thought leaders to implement market-driven solutions to climate change. The Virgin Green Fund invests in renewable energy and resource efficiency, while the Virgin Earth Challenge offers a $25 million prize to encourage a viable technology that results in the net removal of anthropogenic, atmospheric greenhouse gases.

The Opening Ceremony, which is sponsored by Osmoflo, will also feature a welcome-to-country presentation as well as remarks by key government and industry leaders.

The five-day event’s highlights include an extensive technical programme, an exhibition featuring the most advanced desalination technologies, behind-the-scenes plant tours and educational workshops. The Australian Water Association is the Strategic Partner and Water Corporation, Principal Sponsor, for the event.
