In cognisance of the significance of water conservation in the region, Global Village’s facilities management team has been taking steps to minimise water use within the offices and at the event locations. Global Village nominated these projects in Innovative Use/Application of technology & Water Efficiency Leader categories for H20 Water Awards 2010 and was short-listed for both. As a winner of the CSR Arabia Award for Best Waste Management, Global Village takes its responsibility towards the environment and society seriously and pro-actively. One of the areas it has focussed on is providing solutions that address the issue of depletion of water resources. The Global Village facilities management department initiated several initiatives to eliminate unnecessary water use including water-less urinals and artificial grass. We present excerpts from their submissions below:

Falcon Waterfree Urinals at Global Village
“Water conservation is a big issue, especially in our region. Our Facilities Management team have been taking greats steps to ensure we minimise our consumption of water within our offices, on our global village event locations and also instigating efficient water processes for our permanent Global Village construction projects. In 2008, we invested in several waterless urinals for our offices; for 2011, we are investigating the installation of artificial grasses for landscaping. Our Facilities Management team has introduced waterless urinals in the Global Village Park to reduce wastewater generation and potable water demand. Our studies show that a total of 80 waterless urinals can save 99% of water when compared to standard urinals. More specifically 12 million litres of water will be saved during every Temporary Global Village event. A detailed calculation is shown below which explains about the efficiency achieved. Comparison studies shows potential saving of 83% between waterless urinal and standard urinal. This reduces a huge amount of CAPEX and OPEX. Artificial Grass This initiative seeks to limit the usage of potable water for landscape irrigation around the sales office. Existing landscape comprises of natural grass. A comparison between the natural gas versus artificial grass shows a potential saving of 97.6% in water usage every year. Global Village is also conducting detailed study for water diffusers. Past experience shows the reduction in consumption by applying this technology and will be done in coordination with Dubai Municipality.
